Overview

Still perceived as an undiscovered European gem, Slovenia boasts 46 kilometres of Mediterranean coastline, glittering alpine lakes, gorgeous vineyards, intricate cave systems and an abundance of fairy-tale castles. On this 10-day tour we discover all the highlights of this surprisingly small country that is big on natural beauty, friendly faces and exquisite architecture.

Itinerary

Day 0:SOUTH AFRICA TO LJUBLJANA

Depart from South Africa for Ljubljana via a European hub. Live the Journey to assist with flight bookings.

Day 1: ARRIVE LJUBLJANA

Upon arrival at Venice International Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred by road to your hotel in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Tonight you will have a Welcome Dinner at Ljubljana Castle Restaurant (including ride with funicular).

Day 2: LJUBLJANA

Today you will enjoy a full day sightseeing tour of Ljubljana, the green capital of Europe. Lunch and dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 3: POSTOJNA TO PIRAN

Breakfast and check-out.

Leave the city behind and head for the scenic countryside. The first stop is at the Postojna Cave. This is one of the largest in Europe. Tour this unique subterranean world by miniature electric train and then continue to visit the Predjama Castle. This powerful medieval stronghold is perched in the middle of a cliff!!

You proceed to Piran on the Slovenian Coast on the Adriatic. The town is known for its medieval architecture, narrow streets and compact houses. Lunch and dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 4: PIRAN, PORTOROZ

Breakfast at the hotel.

This morning you discover the highlights of Piran. After lunch in a local restaurant you head to Portoroz, a popular tourist resort. Dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 5: PIRAN TO NOVA GORCIA

Breakfast at the hotel.

This morning you visit the Secovlje Salt Pans. Salt making is a unique and important part of the Slovenian economy. From Secovlje we turn inland and travel to Nova Gorica, stopping at the Lipica Stud for a visit and show performance. Lunch in local restaurant.

During the afternoon explore Goriska Brda with its beautiful vineyards. Taste the local cuisine and excellent wines of the region. After dinner in local restaurant transfer to Nova Gorica for overnight.

Day 6: SOCA VALLEY TO BLED

Breakfast and check-out.

Drive along the emerald green Soca River, through Kobarid, featured in Hemmingway’s A Farewell to Arms. Stop to visit the World War I Museum.

You will then proceed to Bled. It is beautifully situated in the Alps. Enjoy some time at leisure to walk and explore the beauty of this scenic area around the lake.

Day 7: BLED

A sightseeing tour shows you the highlights of this charming town on the shores of Lake Bled.

You will also visit the imposing Bled Castle, perched on a cliff high above the lake. Then take the
Pletna boat to the island in the middle of the lake and enter to church of Assumption. Lunch in local restaurant.

During the afternoon you will visit Skofja Loka, a beautiful medieval town with a castle that rises above the confluence of the two Sora Rivers, Poljanska Sora and Selska Sora.

Dinner at your hotel.

Day 8: BLED

Breakfast at the hotel.

This morning you will visit Bljeski Vintgar before returning to Bled for lunch in local restaurant. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner at your hotel.

Day 9: BLED AND BOHINJ

Breakfast at the hotel.

Enjoy a tour to the beautiful Alpine beauty, Lake Bohinj. En route you will visit the Shepherd’s Museum and taste some of the best Slovenian cheese. Proceed to the bottom of Mt Vogel and take the cable car to the top where you will have a light lunch in one of the cottages. Descend from Mt Vogel.

There will be some time available for one last stroll along the lakeside, as the sun sets. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 10: DEPART

After breakfast you will be transferred by road to Venice International Airport where you will check-in for your return flight home.
