From 14 to 22 May 2022 Live the Journey will once again treat our guests to a life-changing journey to Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park to view the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebras. Our tour will also include Lake Manyara National Park and the breath-taking Ngorongoro Crater.


Day 1: South Africa - Arusha

Jambo and welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel located an approximate 45-minute drive from the airport, near Arusha town centre.

Upon arrival at the lodge, freshen up and enjoy a welcome dinner.

Arusha Coffee Lodge
Lying on the gentle rolling foothills that cascade down from the ever-present Mount Meru is the bustling and vibrant town of Arusha. It is here on the outskirts of this town, hidden amongst one of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantations, that you will find Arusha Coffee Lodge, a perfect haven for relaxation either before or after any African safari. Comprising of 30 Plantation Houses that radiate out into the evergreen coffee fields, Arusha Coffee Lodge has been designed around the original landowner’s home that dates back to the early 1900s. The theme of coffee is never far away at Arusha Coffee Lodge, and this is never more evident than in the Plantation Suites where the coffee bean theme permeates even the interior designs of both the main bedrooms as well as the beautifully appointed en-suite bathrooms.

Day 2: Arusha - Lake Manyara

This morning after breakfast you will be briefed on your upcoming safari, followed by a “bean-to-cup” coffee estate tour. The tour takes place within the grounds of the Lodge, which itself is located within one of Tanzania’s largest coffee estates. Weaving in and out of the evergreen coffee bushes, the Coffee Guide explains how the bean is nurtured, harvested, dried and finally roasted to produce a myriad of different blends that sate the taste of the most ardent of coffee connoisseurs. Finally, guests are treated to a tasting.

Later this morning you depart Arusha passing through the Maasai Steppe filled with many picturesque African villages as well as maize, coffee and banana plantations. At the town of Makuyuni you turn north-west and continue the journey up through a scenic escarpment that brings you to your lodge, nestled on the rim of the great African rift valley with stunning views over Lake Manyara, Mount Meru and on a clear day, Mount Kilimanjaro. You arrive in time for lunch followed by a late afternoon game drive in the Manyara National Park.

Lake Manyara Kilimamoja Lodge
Set on the rim of the great African Rift Valley escarpment with stunning views over Lake Manyara, Mount Meru and even Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day, Lake Manyara Kilimamoja Lodge offers pristine lush green gardens and local vegetation with over 130 species of bird. Sitting around the outside fireplace watching the sun setting over the Great Rift Valley and listening to the humming of the birds the background is a fitting way to end the day, and preparing you for your sumptuous dinner feast. All 50 suites and 2-bedroom luxury villas have panoramic views of the surrounding area. All rooms are tastefully decorated with all the amenities one would expect in a quality lodge, inclusive of inside and outside shower, bath, air-conditioning, fire places, Wi-Fi, mini bar, personal safe and private balcony. The spectacular main house has all the luxuries including main lounge, grand hallway, dining room, spa, boutique, conference room, media (TV) room, outside fire place, rim flow pool, billiards room, internet cafe and children's activity room.

Day 3: Lake Manyara

You have the morning at leisure to simply relax. Your guide and vehicle will be available should you wish to visit the interesting town of Karatu nearby. Enjoy lunch at the Lodge followed by an afternoon game drive in Manyara National Park retuning to the Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Lake Manyara - Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, leaving Lake Manyara behind, the journey continues north-west across the stunning hilly countryside of the highlands which is filled with wheat and coffee plantations, and then into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From here lie the vast plains of the Serengeti, where you’ll hopefully start spotting game well before you get into the park. You will enjoy a picnic lunch en-route, arriving at the lodge in the late afternoon in time to freshen up and enjoy your first dinner in the Serengeti National Park.

Ole Serai Luxury Camp – Turner Springs
This Luxury Tented Camp is ideally located right in the heart of central Serengeti. The spectacular and secluded location of this camp, surrounded on three sides by water catchment areas, boasts year-round game. The Camp is tastefully decorated with all the amenities one would expect in a Luxury Camp. The 20 rooms and guest areas have been specifically designed to offer guests an optimum 180-degree view while on their bed or while enjoying their meal and to bring them as close to the nature as possible from the covered verandas. The evenings can be enjoyed sitting around the fireplace while exchanging the day’s adventures with other guests sipping cocktails or having meals at our Maasai Boma, where the background music is nature’s unique sounds mostly dominated by the lions roaring as if in celebration to welcome you.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park

Morning and afternoon game drives in Serengeti National Park.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast this morning you will be transferred to Seronera Dispensary for your COVID-19 PCR testing. After the testing you depart for Ngorongoro, viewing game across the vast Serengeti plains, stopping off en route for your picnic lunch. You then continue your journey towards Ngorongoro where you visit a Maasai Village before you continue to your lodge, set high on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater.

Oldeani Ngorongoro Mountain Lodge
The farmhouse-styled Oldeani Ngorongoro Mountain Lodge is situated in Karatu less than 10 kilometres or 15 minutes’ drive from the Ngorongoro Lodoare gate, set over an area of 40 acres with spectacular views of the Ngorongoro Highlands, Lake Eyasi Corridor and Oldeani Mountains. The lodge has a total of 50 suites made up of 24 Deluxe Twin Suites, 24 Deluxe Double Suites and 2 luxury 2-Bedroom Villas, all with panoramic views of the surrounding areas. All the rooms are tastefully decorated and feature modern guest facilities and amenities, including indoor and outdoor shower, slipper bath, air-conditioning, fireplaces, Wi-Fi, mini bar, in-room safe and a private verandah. The main building houses the reception, lounge, bar, and restaurant with inside and outside seating overlooking Oldeani Mountain. Other dining options include Ravine dinner experience at the secluded bush ravine. Other lodge facilities include banqueting for up to 50 people, rim flow swimming pool, a Gym & Spa, a gift shop, outside fire pit, internet café, Wi-Fi in public areas, pool table and board games. Activities available at the lodge include nature walks in the Ngorongoro Highlands, mountain biking, sundowners, evening traditional dances, visit to local village and cultural activities.

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater

A highlight awaits you this morning as you depart to explore the Ngorongoro Crater. After breakfast, you descend with a picnic lunch through the early morning mists and 2,000 feet into the crater. Ngorongoro Crater is the World’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Due to its size and diversity, the crater floor is comprised of several distinct areas, ranging from forest, swamps, lakes and springs, to open grassland and some sandy dunes. It’s an awesome wildlife experience. Lunch is enjoyed near a small lake filled with hippos. You then continue game viewing before returning to the crater’s rim and your lodge.

Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha - Departure

Departing Ngorongoro Crater after breakfast, head southeast past Lake Manyara and Mto wa Mbu village.

Through the highlands and the Karatu district, you’ll view the scenic wheat plains and coffee plantations here before journeying down the spectacular escarpment where you turn north on to the main Arusha – Dodoma Road and head into Arusha for lunch at Arusha Coffee Lodge.

If time permits you will have the opportunity to visit the Cultural Heritage Centre for some last-minute shopping, followed by a transfer to the Kilimanjaro International Airport to be in time for your flight to Addis Ababa / Nairobi (in transit), and onwards to Johannesburg.
